// basement
2013 — 2017
Looking at framing and concrete, we knew the space was perfect. Almost exactly, the basement buildout ended up as envisioned in 2013. But what started as a man-cave, quickly turned into a space shared by the entire family. To enjoy music and home theatre. To compute, gather, and play.

// rack
AV rack originally sat in the same room as the theatre, adjacent to the pump closet. The unfinished portion of the basement was better suited for the expanding functions of the rack. Added 2x Norco 24-bay TrueNAS boxes with some second hand Dell servers for VMWare. IBM 24 bay tape drive backup. A variety of fibre and cat 6 networking. Cable access was also ideal: server rack → hot water heater closet → pump closet → front of room, projector, and upstairs. And the noise and heat would be isolated.
Moving the server rack was part of the installation of the custom desk at the back of the room. ricko 1.0 sat behind the desk, adjacent to the rack, and had convenient cable access from desk to rack. just as ricko 1.0 was ascending to his final form, his life was tragically cut short.
